The design on the upper part of the Teesdale Single Sconce face is achieved using an old creasing stake, hand-held strike, and a tinners hammer.  After the outer design is formed, we gently work the backside of the inner area of the sconce face, adjacent to the design, with a planishing hammer, over a dome head stake.  This produces a slightly concave surface on the sconce face.  On the original candle sconce this would serve the purpose of deflecting both heat and smoke away from the wall.

The Teesdale Single Sconce is very useful where limited space is a factor.  They also look quite nice when used as companion sconces with the Teesdale Double Sconces.
