The
heart was a favorite traditional design of many early Pennsylvania
craftsmen. The original of this sconce was found in a private
collection in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The
Pennsylvania Heart Sconce would fit quite comfortably in a
traditional, folk art or early country decor. The quaint
cheerful outline of this piece is welcoming in entryways, kitchens,
keeping rooms, even bedroom and bath.
The detail photo
clearly illustrates how the heart and design are punched into the
backside of the sconce face. We are using a dull point punch
so as to not pierce through the surface of the tin. This
decorative punching was commonly seen on many teapots and coffeepots
of the early period. Extremely
popular today, decorative punching is found in many types of home
decorating accessories
