Single, double and triple beads were very popular during the early lighting period.  As you look closely at the product photo on this page, you will see that this sconce features a single bead turned into the outer edge, and a decorative triple bead on the inner surface.
It should be noted that beading, while decorative and aesthetically pleasing, also greatly increases the structural integrity of the sconce face.
